Re: Trump was elected to lead not read

Trump isn't the first president who was adverse to reading daily briefings. Eisenhower could not digest long reports. I heard this story from Jerrold Zacharias in the early 1960's. Zacharias' interest was getting important scientific information to governement.

President Truman had all the government departments prepare a few paragraphs about important infromation for that the President on a daily basis. These were then collated and placed into a 20 page report that was on Truman's desk each morning. The scientific community had a contact within the State Dept. who included any information into the report.

Eisenhower hit the ceiling, when he saw that report on his desk. He wasn't much of a reader. His literary taste started and ended with trash western novels. The reports were stopped. The communications from non-government communities lost their input to the President.

One result was the surprise at Sputnik's launching.
