I disagree. All the advances the LGBTQ community enjoys today, are a result of the Stonewall Rebellion. There is a direct relationship between the riot and legalization of homosexuality, the removal of homosexuality from the APA's catalog of mental disorders, marriage equality, gays and lesbians serving openly in the military, the ability of LGBTQ people (in most cases) to obtain employment (especially as teachers and first responders) and housing without their sexual orientation or gender identity being an obstacle, and (in most cases) the ability of LGBTQ couples to adopt children.

Direct action, even rioting, can bring about real change.
