Re: The Curious Silence of the Catholic Church

Maybe Catholic bishops are not so eager to reopen churches because they realize manslaughter is a mortal sin. The church has departed from its 16th century ways and now pays attention to science.

Note that the bishops of New York, Newark, Brooklyn, and Rockville Center all canceled masses for the weekend of March 14th-15th, with not a single government entity telling them to do so. They did so out of concern for the safety of their parishoners.

Note also that the Catholic Church teaches that a health concern is a reason for not attending mass.

And note that many churches are televising mass daily.

Finally, note that churches are actively soliciting money so that they can pay their bills, and that parishoners are forking over significant amounts.
