These developments are further evidence of my theory that the destruction of the venerable, historic and beautiful Stillwell Terminal marked the end of Coney Island. The old Coney Island died decades ago. It's been a squalid-filled rathole since. As long as Nathans, the Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone survive in some form, I welcome the development. Coney has been rebuilt several times over, so this is nothing new for this area. It was once a seaside resort for the rich, then the masses, then a slum. Perhaps a modern facelift would help restore it's luster. |
