They're not suspending the mortgage payments, only delaying them. The mortgagor still has to make those payments, just at the end of the term, so for each month of non-payment, the term is extended by one month (at no interest).If rent is delayed for a month, then does the tenant pay that at the end of the tenancy? Do they thus owe X months of rent arrears that they have to pay back before vacating? It's not the same. If they want to order all landlords to suspend late fees for rent, but still expect the arrears to be paid off eventually, then I'm fine with that. |
