Yes, as more people are infected more will die but I find it encouraging that the fatality rate has held steady.

More die, but more less serious infections get discovered with more testing. So it roughly cancels out.

The trouble is, of course, that 2% of 330 million is 6.6 million, which is an absolutely terrible number. So until we can get massive testing in place so that uninfected and recovered people go to work and sick people stay home, our economy is in terrible shape. And people continue to die and get permanently disabled.
