They wouldn't die in the street. They'd die on a gurney in a hospital corridor. :(What people also don't realize is how many people have those "compromised respiratory systems" that lead to death or permanent disability. Even a mild case of chronic asthma makes younger people be at far greater risk than the "average." The difference between this and the flu, in addition to the factor of 10 in death rate, is that a flu causes people to die at 89 who otherwise would have lived to 91. This kills off and disables a lot of people who were really quite healthy and not at all infirm, just not in perfect health. |
