Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.None of these freedoms was generally abridged in WW II (there may have been specific local exceptions). Maybe one can make an argument that congregating in a park does not fall under the right to assemble, since the people "assembling" have nothing to do with each other. But someone will surely argue that you can't break up a 100-guest wedding. |
