This corona virus is being blown way out or proportion.Very true. It's overkill, and it's especially political. It is certainly overkill (though maybe that's not the best choice of words). Political? Not in the way you mean it. It is a conspiracy by the liberal media to tank the economy to make President Trump look bad so he won't win re-election. Hardly. Other countries are reacting even more extremely than we are. I don't think the Italian, French, and Spanish governments are too concerned about Donald Trump winning reelection, or not, in the United States. (They may prefer that he doesn't, but that surely is not what guides their domestic policies.) Best I can figure is that this is a power grab by the international "public health" community. Or a result of their inflated sense of their own importance. I read things like "it calls for decisive action until we really get a handle on it. To get a handle on it, we need a few weeks to generate data." Question: who exactly is "we" here? No, since the numbers are still quite small compared to what they call "seasonal flu", it doesn't call for "decisive action". The researchers trying to "get a handle on" this virus do not have the right to shut down society for their benefit. If some hospital does get overcrowded, well, such things have happened before, and the world has not ended. But even that doesn't seem too likely. And this talk by politicians of the "crisis" extending into July or August is just completely off the wall. |
