The full line of authority is: Authority or respect: submitting to tradition and legitimate authority; opposite of subversion

Nuance of course being that respect is earned. Leadership is not mentioned (I'd put that more under loyalty), I would say "legitimate authority" is the examples I gave. Submitting to tradition is pretty much the textbook definition of conservative, though in many cases it's the wise approach ("If it ain't broke, don't fix it" or the Chesterton's Fence approach to reform).

As for loyalty, the opposite stance is betrayal. A common trope is "the left eats its own" which (even beyond cancel culture) has been true politically: see supporters of far left progressives (the squad, Sanders) vs the establishment / moderate left (Pelosi, Biden). There was "Bernie or Bust," and Cenk Uygur's statement when forming the Justice Democrats that they were going to "destroy the party from the inside". Right now impeachment is unifying them and has the potential to split the Republicans, which makes it a good strategic move, but before this there was much infighting.
