In 1960 Brownsville & ENY were safe working class neighborhoods of hard working Jews and Italians. By 1967 Brownsville & ENY were dangerous black and hispanic slum areas with many residents on welfare. IIRC there were riots in 1966-67 which quickly finished off the area. Mayor Lindsay's NYPD was told to do nothing. |
