Moving is the answer.The only problem is that moving isn't simple, it's expensive. The fixed costs of moving may never be amortized by the savings realized from living elsewhere. That's called "path dependence." As for working hard, that's the usual advice given by conservative types, and while it will work for many people and is usually good advice to give to individuals, it won't work if everyone does it. Someone has to do the menial tasks and if everyone had the skills necessary to do higher-paying work, then the wages for said work will drop below the level at which training for those jobs is seen as worthwhile. The only thing that prevents this from happening is basically determinism: Not enough people are inherently capable enough to "work hard and improve oneself." |
