I agree with your second sentence. But I know people who didn't and they've done very well for themselves.One of my best friends is gay. When he came out years ago, his father threw him out of the house and his mother refused to talk with him up to the day she died. Years later he was in a relationship with a man and while they were coming out of a bar in Dallas, they were attacked. His partner was killed and my friend spent 2 months in the hospital and almost 4 months in rehab. Today he is married to one of my oldest friends; is a successful software engineer; and has a great job. He wasn't lucky but he overcame life's obstacles and made his own luck. |
