Re: Obama is Buying a $15M Estate in Martha’s Vineyard

I don't begrudge him. He has the money and whatever message people (his supporters or detractors) take from it, he will deal with it, or not.

I don't think this is happening in this case, but there was a theory among people in "radical" groups ('60s-ish), that if one of their leaders came from money, he was entitled to it, because of "how hard he works for the cause." Kind of like Soviet leaders got a nice, government-owned dacha.

I remember an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer (IIRC) decades ago about one such "rich radical." He was asked how he deals with all his (hereditary) money in light of his groups goals and politics. He said he lives and works as if he does not have the money. In fact, he said, he keeps it in a hard-to-reach bank, where you have to take the Broad Street Line to Olney, they walk "many blocks" to reach the bank, so it is like it isn't really there.

But he wasn't asked an obvious question: "Why don't you give it away or to 'the cause.'"
