Before anyone responds by citing natural cycles: The existence of a natural explanation for a given phenomenon does not preclude an artificial explanation for another instance of the same phenomenon.

For example, a forest fire can be started by arson, or by failing to properly extinguish a campfire, or by a cigarette, but that doesn't mean that there were no forest fires before humans started making fires.
