This is a very difficult issue that is not black and white and requires nuance.First, I do not believe that these statements make Pete Buttigieg an Anti-Semite. He has not questioned Israel's right to self defense and repeated that any agreement requires protection of Israel's security interests. I do not like that he has backtracked from statements that he has previously said about the leadership of "Palestinians," but campaign statements have been held by the Supreme Court to not be relevant in assessing policy decisions. Pete Buttigieg is not saying that the United States should cut aid to Israel or increase aid to "Palestinians" as some of the people closely tied to Bernie Sanders and others have stated. The question is whether the funds should be use for offensive (as opposed to defensive, not the definition that is "repugnant to the moral sense, good taste, or the like; insulting" - because the words are homonyms I needed to clarify which I was referring to) behavior. I personally believe that all of the lands with Israel's geographical borders belong to Israel. |
