The issue is safety for the LGBTQ seniors, as well as access to a supportive environment, just like straight seniors normally expect.That isn't always so for LGBTQ seniors in ordinary housing. There have been cases where senior LGBTQ couples have been denied the ability to share a unit together, something almost always afforded straight couples. There have been cases where senior housing staff and tenants have objected to the presence of LGBTQ people living in such housing facilities. There have been incidents of violence against LGBTQ seniors by straight tenants. Again, heterosexual senior citizens wouldn't ever have to think twice about any of these things before seeking housing. Elderly LGBTQ people MUST. |
