Misheard Lyrics (Re: All In The Family)

Remember how in the original show, Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton had to re-record the opening theme song "Those Were the Days" because people couldn't understand some of the lyrics the way it was sung originally? The later seasons had them more clearly enunciate these lines

"Boy, the way Glenn Miller played",
"And you knew who you were then",
"Mister we could use a man like Hoibert Hoover again"

And the whole last stanza:

"Didn't need no welfare state"
"Everybody pulled his weight"
"Gee, our old La Salle ran great"

As I kid, I could never understand the last line as originally sung. I thought they were talking about something called "GRO La Salle rent rates". When they re-sang it, I finally got it.

And the instrumental end theme song, "Remembering You", was co-written by Carroll O'Connor and actually had lyrics.
