I'm still surprised that Pantaleo went straight to that chokehold when there were five other cops--and one boss--on the scene. I've seen other cops do more with less force. It was all way too much.There are stories that the 120 CO wanted Garner to "go through the system" instead of being issued a summons the next time somebody complained, but that, if true, just escalated things. Over loosies? Come on. It wouldn't have been the end of the world if the cops just gave Garner his usual ticket. Certainly nothing to get him killed over. Power, whether as a cop or otherwise, demands care. Otherwise, you get situations like the Garner case. |
