known weak spots at the Canadian border

The entire border is a known weak spot. Neither the US or Canada stops you from crossing. They just catch you once you're in.

And you don't need a "coyote." The Times had an article about asylum seekers. You research a good place on Google Maps; then you take a bus or a train to St. Albans and have a taxi drop you off there.
