Nobody thought much of Jimmy Carter at that point in time either, and Ford was not encountering scandals. Pardoning Nixon and telling NY to drop dead is what got him. Trump has already done that with the SLAT deduction and refusing to fund Gateway. Very hard to win when you approval rate ceiling is 43%. |
