I wouldn't wait for perfection.A few years back, I went over and based in Paris, for 12 days. I spent most or all of a day at the Louvre. I didn't see everything. I saw a lot. It's good enough. Did Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Disneyland Paris, a round-trip on the TGV to Bordeaux (though I could have done another trip elsewhere probably as well), and a lot of other stuff (got to see the fireworks at the Eiffel Tower on Bastille Day actually)! No need to speak French, although I think they appreciated that I had good pronunciation for things like the rail station names and other landmarks. Even that's not all that necessary though. I wouldn't necessarily recommend less than a week, but if you can manage to go for a week or two, I wouldn't wait until you can go for a month, or until you master the language. And who knows what may prevent us from traveling at any point in the future? |
