Wikipedia says the vaulted stone roof underneath the wood and lead roof saved much of the interior from falling burning timbers.The article also quotes the Guardian as claiming the north rose window was still intact. That actually seems to be the one of the three that was mostly original glass. Macron also says "The worst has been avoided." Still a massive disaster. I don't expect repairs to be completed in my lifetime. |
