I don't think FDR turned away those Jews because he was a racist. I have never once heard any anti-Semitic quote ever attributed to FDR unlike his contemporaries like Henry Ford and Father Coughlin. I do think that FDR was a politician who kept an ear on the political sentiment of the country and acted accordingly. |
