You can spend more on pet food than human food, of course. That doesn't mean you have to, and it doesn't mean that it's more expensive to produce.

We spend about $1.25 for 5.5 ounce cans of Purina ProPlan (bought by the case). Good like buying tuna fish for humans for that price.

Their suggestion of feeding human food to your pet is a dangerous one. Animals need a different balance of nutrients. Even if you give them enough of what they need you could easily give them too much of ingredients that make kidney failure at an abnormally young age more likely.
