I understood it's just a campaign promise that it cannot be kept.

Yet Trump has forced a government shutdown over this stupid promise.

Are Canadian gangs a problem in anywhere of the United States?

Are Central American gangs going to be deterred better by the border security Trump proposes? No, they will be deterred by the border security improvements that the Border Patrol proposes, which Democrats in the House will gladly vote for.
