But his misguided loyalty to his party, his bad judgement on how to deal with the Watergate burglers, and his alcoholism all got in the way.If he had just distanced himself from the burglers, hung them out to dry & stuck to the story of having nothing to do with the break in instead of trying to buy silence & payoff witnesses to purger themselves, all part of constructing a massive cover-up as confirmed by those pesky tapes including the 18 minute tape erasure gap all led to resignation before impeachment. Dick should have took a lesson from JFK. When Kennedy was elected, he cut all ties with Sinatra, suspecting a (never proved) Mafia connection. When Watergate happened, he should have cut all ties with the burglers. |
