Garner, who had asthma, suffered a heart attack in an ambulance and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Associated Press says exactly that.

And again, no chokehold was used. Pantalo used a takedown maneuver. If Garner was being choked, he would not have been able to speak. His plea of "I can't breathe" was indicative of symptoms of his asthma and impending heart attack.
