Lincoln used the Emancipation Proclamation more as a political and military statement, than as a real legal motion on slavery. The idea of the Proclamation was to drive home to people on both sides, that the South was now losing the war.Lincoln was our greatest President, but like all politicians, he was also a pragmatist. |
