Some of those Irish bars nowadays are so called "Harp" bars by us "narrowbacks" inasmuch as they are frequented by reciently arrived Irish (many possibly here illegally). Being 3d generation Irish, They don't like us to drink there. As you belly up to the bar, you wait & wait. When the barman finally gets to you with a surly look on his pus & a brogue as thick as Paddys Pig he'll finally pour you a lager with a "Coney Island" head. Nice way to feel welcome.AFAIK, The Irish,as an ethnic group are the only ones that have no problem discriminating against their own kind. Too bad the "just off the boat" types don't realize that we are all from the same tribe. |
