Lincoln was an abolitionist, about as far left as you could be in the 1850s. TR and Washington would also be called leftists today.Oh, and although Hiss was part of Truman's State Department, and served as the first Secretary General of the early precursor to the UN, he did not write its charter. He was convicted of perjury during Joe McCarthy's communist witch hunts, and his trial was of dubious impartiality. McCarthy himself died in disgrace after having needlessly destroyed so many innocent lives. |
