There were a lot fewer cars on the road then and travel, especially off peak, was easier in and out of NY. Yes, not all of the highways existed, but there were enough of them by the mid fifties to get someone in and out of Manhattan from thirtyish miles out well within two hours.Time to kids is perceived differently. So what you may remember as a two hour drive is somewhat distorted by that perception. |
