I'm not be extremely politically correct though. All of these are major factors in his loss: - The district voted 41% for Sanders in the 2016 primary, and this year is a more left-wing electorate because there is no race for governor, senator, or mayor to bring slightly less dedicated Democrats out. - Crowley is very establishment. He runs the Queens Democratic organization. He is a close crony of Pelosi. - He is middle aged. - He is a white male. - His opponent is a Latina in a district that is heavily Spanish-speaking. - He sent a Latina aide to his debate with his opponent, instead of coming to the debate himself. - The NY Times ran an editorial chiding him for his arrogance and complacency. If there's ever a time when the NYT editorial board has major influence, it's in a Democratic primary in NYC where there is no race for mayor, governor, senator, or president. |
