People like him are the problem, who want to pull the rug from under needy people and cast them as "looking for handout" and so on. I'll be the first to admit that the current system is badly abused, but I take no issue with the concept of my tax dollars funding social programs.

I remember once as a child (I was about 9 or 10 y/o) in which both of my parents were laid off at the same time. During that time they rec'd food stamps (of course I didn't realize what there were at the time), but I remember seeing my Mom with the booklets when we went grocery shopping. I also remember them going through the job ads/dad making trips to the union hall for work. They did it the right way, and used the assistance until my Dad found another job.

They didn't "become dependent", "lazy" and so on. Both my brother and I worked in the Summer Youth Employment Program as soon as we were old enough, bagged groceries in the supermarkets for tips and so on.
