Trump is an excellent counterpoint I can use for any Democrat who wants to grow the Federal government / Federal power. The US was supposed to have the election of your local mayor / city council matter more to your day to day affairs than the President / Senate / Congress. For whatever reason large numbers of people have lost sight of that, likely due to media influence, and likely due to the ease of corruption. Bribing a small number of people with large amounts of power is more cost effective than a large number of people with small amounts of power.
