White-skinned people in Africa would never live long enough to reproduce.

Why?

When the Africans moved north, natural selection favored lighter skinned people because they could absorb more sun to produce vitamin D.

Or eat foods that have Vitamin D or don't deplete D.

There are people in northern Europe who say they get little sun but have eliminate grains from their diet and got the D levels normal.
