And that girl telling the police she's been there two hours without buying anything is totally irrelevant to the story

It's irrelevant to the police conduct, which seems to have been standard. It's not irrelevant to the story, which is that this Starbucks only asked black customers who weren't purchasing anything to leave, not white customers who weren't purchasing anything.
