The news reports I'm seeing suggest that the victim just walked out into traffic, that the car was going 40 in a 45, and that the human in the driver's seat saw it happen and had no time to step on the brake.If all of that turns out to be true, this incident doesn't actually reflect badly on self-driving cars. What I would expect more of is self-driving cars pulling off to the side of the road and telling their passenger, I'm sorry, I don't know how to proceed. |
