The truss is critical in making the whole bridge really stiff. What I infer from the video John posted is that this bridge had less redundancy than many, and when it was mishandled during installation a lot of the redundancy that was left was destroyed. Then there wasn't enough redundancy left when they over-tightened a rod and caused it to fail. |
