The Church aside, my block I grew up on was mixed, we had Irish Norwegians Italians Puerto Ricans Jewish polish well, you get the picture! And there was no racial or ethnic discourse at all. Of course everyone broke each other's balls but that was to be expected growing up in my Brooklyn neighborhood and it was all in good fun. We even had our neighborhood gays which no one bothered and if they were bothered, they would catch a beating. It's just the way it was growing up. |
