This one looked ok until I got to the bolded word:The booklet features a list of gender-specific words to avoid such as “honey”, “darling”, “guys”, and “love” to help staff members grow more aware of what might offend those around them. Dunno about Australia, but 'round these here You-nited States "guys" has become mostly gender neutral. At least, phrases like "guys from work" and commands like "Guys quiet down!" are used by both genders to address groups of all genders (even if it's used to refer to an all female group, you're more likely to hear them referred to as "guys" rather than "gals"). If that ruffles their feathers, what do they think of California's ubiquitous "dude"? |
