well the perp looks Dominican, so if some gay dude stared him down and said something, it could trigger him by challenging his masculinity.

The train looks empty based on the number of people getting on and off so I doubt it was an issue caused when overcrowding occurs.

Yeah, there are guys who will get violent if a gay man hits on them.
