Two of my favorites are Max Roach and Art Blakey. And don't laugh but Charlie Watts of the Stones is a VERY accomplished jazz drummer. I've also heard recordings of some phenomenal New Orleans drummers, like Johnny Vidacovich.Of the young drummers, I'm partial to Russell Batiste. Pretty much any drummer playing with a known name as the front man in New Orleans is the real deal. |
