No one is sending Levine to the penitentiary.

He is being deprived of his livelihood, put into disgrace, and the people who elected have no say in it. All on unproven accusations.

What possible threats can be made to Franken to force him to resign? All the Democrats can do is take him off the committee assignments he's on. Plus of course if he stays there will be Ethics Committee hearings. I think that's a reasonable "threat": resign or else we will hold hearings to find out what if anything you've really done.

Yes, that, and being treated as a pariah by your peers and having your job made hell.

I've worked at places where it was virtually impossible to fire anyone without very serious cause and [non-criminal] due process. But if someone seriously pissed off the management he/she was sent off to the office equivalent of Siberia, stripped of meaningful duties and powers, given petty tasks to do, and their staplers were taken away.
