For example, a mediator in a labor negotiation would always be incredibly careful about the words they use to describe a situation under discussion, and would not use a technically correct phrase if it would offend one side. Part of being a successful mediator is to cater to the sensitivities of both sides, whether those sensitivities are reasonable or not. You can well argue that the US should be actively pro-Israel, but then you have to accept the loss of ability to be a successful mediator, which was ftgreene's point. |
