In reality most of the federal programs involved relief after 120 to 240 consecutive monthly payments before you were eligible. There was forgiveness for teaching in a disadvantaged neighborhood but only after 5 years so 60 monthly payments had to have been made. Total forgiveness was granted for certain loans in cases of total disability or death of the student. |
