Back when those roads were designed, cars were slower overall. Then there's the fact that the road was never designed for fast driving. All the curves and hills were done specifically to slow cars down, and increase the "interesting" aspect of navigating the road. Taking it too fast is deadly.Part of the allure of a Sunday drive was supposed to be the driving. It wasn't meant to get one there fast, but to make the trip itself the centerpiece. |
