Re: NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll: Majority of Americans want Confederate statues to remain in place

Which is what makes Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee different from George Washington and Thomas Jefferson even though they were all racists and owned slaves.

Because liberty and equality are an aberration, the foundation of the United States of America is the greatest gift to humanity of all time. The other free countries of the world owe their existence to that seminal event of our history. Even if the people who brought forth on this world our nation did things that weren't exactly honorable, they did this one thing that was so profoundly great that they deserve our eternal reverence. What did Davis and Lee do? Nothing. They tried to destroy this great gift to humanity. We can judge Robert E. Lee based on his flaws because nothing that he achieved or attempted to achieve would have been a source of greatness.
