According to friends of mine in the Five Towns that send their children to public schools, the quality of public schools has decreased dramatically because the school board, a majority of whom send their children to Yeshivas and not the public schools, have drastically cut services that are provided in public schools in order to allow for increased support for children going to private schools. There was a similar attempt in Great Neck this past year that failed miserably, but an Orthodox Jew who works in the same office suite as mine was hoping the slate of Orthodox candidates would win because they would give him more money to send his children to a local Yeshiva even though that was what he was going to do anyway regardless of the quality of the public schools. |
