You've never heard of parish priests being called pastors?

It's really mostly used as an administrative term. A Catholic might say "Our pastor gave a sermon asking for money to fix the roof" but would be unlikely to say "I asked my pastor for advice about the issue that's been bothering me." In the latter case they would usually say "priest."

The context in which the prior poster says "pastor" makes it quite likely (though of course not conclusive) that he is not a Roman Catholic.
